Digital minister Matt Hancock has officially launched the Digital Economy Act, to be introduced on April 1, which will require an age check tool be built into adult websites. This means users will have to provide credit card details or proof of age such as passport or driving licence to access the pornography sites. There are some reservations from experts however, as reported in Manchester Evening News. Dr Victoria Nash said: "While it may make it harder for children to stumble across pornography, especially in the younger age range, it will do nothing to stop determined teenagers. Another critic is Dr Joss Wright from the Oxford Internet Institute, who said: "There's privacy issues - you're requiring people to effectively announce the fact they are looking at this material to the credit card authorities. The new AgeID system is expected to go live on April 1, though an exact date has not yet been set.
